Governor’s Horse Guard Annual Show is on Sunday. Want to Trot on Over?

Starting at 8 a.m on July 21st, equine lovers of all ages will compete in two rings in this event held in Newtown that draws people from all over New England. Here's the word from the Second Company:

The first Horse Show hosted by 2GHG was in 1999, under the command of Major Peter Moritz. There was an English Ring, a Western Ring and a Hunt course with a total of seventy-five classes. About fifty riders participated and it was deemed a success. Since then, it has grown to be recognized by the Connecticut Horse Shows Association (CHSA) and the Connecticut Hunter and Jumper Association, (CHJA). English, Western, Hunt, Pleasure, Lead line and Driving Classes are all included. In 2007, there was a fun surprise in the Driving Classes: carriages drawn by mini horses!

This event has become a great favorite for spectators from the area. It is a chance to see beautiful horses from all over New England perform in over seventy classes, in two show rings. In addition to ribbons and trophies awarded in over 70 classes, 2GHG presents three special trophies.

The 2GHG is located near the Reed School on 4 Wildlife Drive in Newtown.
