Household Hazardous Waste Day

The Housatonic Recovery Resources Authority is holding Household Hazardous Waste this Saturday, May 19 from 9:00am-2:00pm at the Newtown Public Works Garage (4 Turkey Hill Road) for the residents of  Bethel, Danbury, New Fairfield, Newtown, Redding and Ridgefield. 

What to bring:

• Paints
• Stains and Varnishes
• Paint Thinners & Strippers
• Wood Preservatives
• Resins, Rosins & Adhesives
• Polishes for Furniture, Floor & Metal
• Cleaners for Rug & Upholstery
• Cleaners for Oven, Toilet Bowl & Drain
• Swimming Pool Chemicals
• Fluorescent Bulbs 
• Pesticides, Herbicides, Insecticides (including Lawn Care Products)
• Flea Powder
• Moth Balls
• Spot Removers
• Dry Cleaning Solvents
• Lighter Fluids
• Septic Tank Degreasers
• Engine Degreasers
• Waste Fuels (Kerosene, Gasoline)
• Carburetor Cleaners, Brake Fluids
• Transmission Fluids, Car Waxes
• Full or Partially Full Aerosol Cans
• Rubber Cement, Airplane Glue
• Photo Chemicals, Chemistry Sets
• Hobby Supplies
• Rechargeable (Ni-Cd) Batteries
• Camera Batteries
• Thermostats, Thermometers

• Electronics, Computers, VCR’s (Recycle at town Drop off Center)
• Empty Aerosol Cans (put in garbage)
• Household Batteries (put in garbage)
• PCB Capacitors
• Smoke Detectors
• Auto Batteries & Tires
• Motor Oil & Antifreeze (Recycle at Town Drop Off Center)
• Ammunition, Fireworks, Explosives (Call the Police Department)
• Radioactive Materials
• Unknown Gases
• Controlled Substances
• Pathological Material
• Pharmaceutical or Medical Wastes

Fill a Public Works Truck
Help the Town of Newtown put an end to hunger during National Public Works Week! 
Drop off non-perishable goods on Saturday, May 19 from 9am to 2pm at Newtown Public Works or the Newtown Transfer Station from 7am to 3pm.
 
All donations with go to the Salvation Army Food Pantry located at Newtown Social Services. 
Nonperishable food donations will be accepted at any town office during Public Works Week, Monday, May 21 through Friday, May 25. You can also bring your donations to the Transfer Station Tuesday, May 22 through Saturday, May 26.
