Joni Mitchell's Jazz tribute in Newtown on October 13

A special Evening Celebrating Joni Mitchell's 75th birthday with a concert in the theater at Edmond Town Hall in Newtown on October 13. Doors open at 7pm.

This 7-member group plays hits from Joni Mitchell's critically acclaimed jazz albums: Court & Spark, Shadows & Light, Hejira, Blue, Miles of Aisles, Hissing of Summer Lawns. Featuring Leslie Ballard: vocals and flute, Steve Zerlin: bass, Roger Post: drums, Matt Spencer: percussion, George Lesiw: guitar, Steve Moran: sax, and Christian Martirano: keyboards. Newtown on October 13. The $20 tickets are available online and proceeds will go to the Edmond Town Hall restoration fund.

Attendees are invited to record greetings for a video birthday e-card for Joni. The concert is open to the public. Video collages of Joni's photos and paintings create a beautiful backdrop on the movie screen.

This is a tribute to a premier songwriter, guitarist, singer, and producer. Joni's name appears on many lists of superlatives: Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, 100 Greatest Singers of All Time, 100 Greatest Guitarists, 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time.

Joni Mitchell crossed the bridge from folk diva to jazz artist easily, hiring Tom Scott and the LA Express for her tour and Grammy-winning album "Miles of Aisles." Next, touring and recording with Jaco Pastorius, Pat Metheny, Don Alias, Wayne Shorter, Peter Erskine.  She collaborated with jazz legend Charles Mingus on her album "Mingus." Jazz great Herbie Hancock dedicated an entire album to interpreting her songs, "River: the Joni Letters."
