Newtown Choral Society to Present Concert December 2

Harpist Annelise Ellars will be accompanying The Newtown Choral Society when they present Benjamin Britten’s “Ceremony of Carols” as part of their holiday concert December 2 at 4 pm at The Meeting House. Tickets are $10 and $8 for seniors and students.

Currently a student at the Hartt School of Music and the Hartt Schools harpist, Annelise has played with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and the Schola Cantorum of the Cathedral of St. Joseph.

“Ceremony of Carols” was written in the 1940’s while Britten was on a ship returning to England from the United States during WWII.

The choir, under the direction of Mary Andreotta and accompanied by Susan Anthony-Klein, will also present other joyous songs of the season as well as “Musicological Journey Through the Twelve Days of Christmas" which highlights musical styles from 6 centuries.

A highlight will be a Doo-wop interpretation of “Three Kings” based on the 30’s song Blue Moon and arranged by choir tenor Dan Coffmann.

The audience will be invited to join the choir in “Joy to the World” at the end of the concert.
