Author Clare Pernice Brings the Circus to The Toy Tree in Newtown on June 1

May 23, 2019 (Newtown, Conn.) -- The Toy Tree announced today the appearance of children’s author/illustrator, Clare Pernice, on Saturday, June 1 at 10:00 am for a fun-filled event, “A Day at the Circus” at their 14 Church Hill Road, Newtown location. Clare will read from the book she wrote and illustrated, Circus Girl, then invite children to complete a lion craft (art materials are complimentary), followed by a book signing. All Circus Girl books purchases will be personalized. Attendees will be entered into a door prize drawing for a child-friendly gift basket. The program is free and children must be accompanied by an adult.

“The Toy Tree is thrilled to host ‘A Day at the Circus’ and the appearance of popular author, Clare Pernice. We look forward to offering a community event that’s both play-based and educational, and hope many will join in our circus fun,” said Heather Saunders, The Toy Tree Marketing Coordinator.

Born and raised in England, Clare Pernice’s passion for children’s books took root while influenced by Roald Dahl (who visited her school), and her witty, story-telling father. Clare took an avid interest in the world of children’s stories, art, and design and went on to graduate from London’s Central Saint Martin’s School of Art. She has since illustrated and exhibited works in Paris, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Charleston, and New York. She has also designed children’s books, clothes, toys, & murals, and has created costumes and props for both film and stage.

But Clare’s true love is writing and illustrating picture books, of which Circus Girl is her first. Circus Girl is the tale of a young girl who morphs into a superstar -- the main attraction -- in a circus of her own. Clare’s picture book combines playful text with whimsical watercolor images, capturing the girl’s imagination of tumbling, flying, juggling, and spinning across the pages. The little girl’s family of toys help her create a dream-like circus show before she falls fast asleep.

“Circus Girl was inspired my childhood, my two children, and all children who love to play dress up and make-believe,” said Clare.

The author’s future written and illustrated titles with Simply Read Books include The Real Mother Goose and Adventure Boy.

Clare Pernice lives in Weston, Connecticut with her husband, two children and their miniature dachschund, Milo. She is available for story time readings/signings and art lessons at schools, libraries, camps, bookstores, boutiques, and birthday parties. For bookings, e-mail wordsmithllc@optonline.net or contact the author directly via her website, www.clarepernice.com. Clare also welcomes followers on her author Facebook page, “Clare Pernice Word & Pictures.”
