Newtown Chamber Hosting Mardi Gras Party at New Community Center

NEWTOWN — Ki kote fèt la ye? (That’s Creole for “Where’s the party?”)

Anyone looking for an authentic, Creole-flavored Mardi Gras party without having to travel farther than Fairfield Hills should grab their tickets now for the Newtown Chamber of Commerce premier event — “The French Quarter” celebration on Thursday, Feb. 20, 6 to 9 p.m., at the Newtown Community Center.

“This will be the chamber’s first major event at the new community center, and we’ve got room for several hundred to attend,” said co-organizer and Chamber Vice President Judith Miller. “We’re hoping this will be such a popular event right off the bat, that we’ll make it an annual chamber activity along with our golf tournament and Martini Madness.”

Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at newtown-ct.com, ($50 at the door), with a $15 ($20 at the door) “designated driver” option.

“The event itself will feature a competition and prize for the best mask,” Miller said. Attendees can also make their mask at home and bring it to the competition. The chamber also hosted a mask-making party at Reverie Brewing Company where participants created masks for the party.

Newtown restaurant Lucas Local will provide heavy Louisiana-inspired appetizers for the Mardi Gras, and Miller’s daughter and pastry chef Samantha, of S.S. Sweets, will provide an assortment of French delicacies, including cream puffs infused with Litchfield Distillery Maple Bourbon.

Litchfield Distillery will provide two batched drinks: a vodka drink and a bourbon drink, along with a spirits tasting table.

Woodbury Brewing has signed up to pour its own BA Don’t Go Romanov, a Russian imperial stout, along with Champils, a pilsner.

Chamber member Nick’s Chilled and Distilled will offer additional wine selections.

DJ “Dr. John” Voket of 99 Dollar DJ & Entertainment Service will provide music, and the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission is working with Peak Event Services to design the evening’s décor.

Additional sponsors include Townsquare Media; Manzi Insurance (sponsoring the dessert table); Bryan Roth with Edward Jones (sponsoring the registration table); and the C.H. Booth Library, which provided Mardi Gras history and reference materials used to make the event as authentic as possible.

SERVPRO of Newtown & Southern Litchfield County will sponsor the clean-up and Julie Friend of eFriend Marketing created branding and communications.
