Chair Yoga with Beth Bierko: (ongoing) Tuesday at 5:00 pm via Zoom, every Tuesday. The class includes many of the physical benefits associated with a traditional mat class – strength, flexibility and balance – but eliminates the stress resulting from moving from standing to sitting and back again throughout the session.
30 Minute Flex & Balance with Sean: (ongoing) Wednesday at 10:30 am via Zoom, every Wednesday. A gentle exercise session where you can practice your flexibility and balance. Register in advance on our website.
Creative Writing Workshop: (ongoing) Wednesdays October (6), 13, 20, 27 & November 3, 6:00-7:30 pm in the Genealogy Room. A creative Non-fiction Generative Writing and Brainstorming Workshop with Ellen O’Donnell. Register on our website chboothlibrary.org or call us at 203-426-4533. Tuesday November 9: Composting 10:00- 11:15 AM via Zoom. Greg Bugbee of The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, Department of Soil & Water, New Haven, CT will give us a presentation on the topic of responsible Composting. As an expert in soil fertility, invasive aquatic plants, turfgrass, potting media, composting, and control of weeds and algae in lakes and ponds, he works with the public to solve soil and water related problems.
Wedesday November 10: Freeman Center Presentation 6:00 PM – 8:00PM here in the Meeting Room. Join Maisa Tisdale for a talk about the founding, growth and mission of the The Mary & Eliza Freeman Center for History and Community in Bridgeport, CT’s South End. Maisa Tisdale has advocated for the preservation of the Mary & Eliza Freeman Houses since 1994, and founded the Mary & Eliza Freeman Center for History and Community in 2009. Over the past ten years she has worked on historic preservation and community development.
Exhibitions at the Library
- Circle Exhibit: This exhibit began with a challenge to use a five-inch Plexiglas circle, incorporating the circle into a work of fiber art.
- Alphabetica: There are twenty-six letters of the alphabet and each has been made into a charming art quilt. The range is, of course, A is for Antelope to Z is for Zipper.
- Four by Twelve Fiber Art Exhibit: These wonderful works of fiber art are created with a wide variety of techniques and mounted onto 4” by 12” panelboards.
Side By Side an Exhibit of Fiber Art: September 25 – October 29 in The Meeting Room.
Side by Side is an exhibit by FiberWorks, a group of artists based in Western Connecticut who create a range of work combining fiber and other materials. Each artist uses various techniques to incorporate stitching, painting, quilting, weaving and collaging.
Autumn Feeling: October 1-November 30 in the 1st Floor Entry Hall. This exhibit of ten oil on canvas paintings by Anne Marie Foran has an Autumnal theme. The artist graduated from Marymount Manhattan College, NYC with a BFA and has continued her studies as a member of the Washington Art Association and the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists, CT.
SCAN - Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, CT: November 1-December 31: Exhibit in the 1st floor Meeting Room. SCAN is a group of artists in and around Newtown, CT, who will display numerous works of art in various mediums.
