Chair Yoga with Beth Bierko: Tuesday December 28 at 5:00 pm via Zoom, every Tuesday this Fall & Winter. The class includes many of the physical benefits associated with a traditional mat class – strength, flexibility and balance – but eliminates the stress resulting from moving from standing to sitting and back again throughout the session. 30 Minute Flex & Balance with Sean: Wednesday December 29 at 10:30 am on Zoom, every Wednesday this Fall & Winter. A gentle exercise session where you can practice your flexibility and balance. Register in advance on our website.     

Black Bears in Connecticut: Thursday December 30 at 7:00 pm via Zoom.  Paul Colburn’s presentation focuses on the natural history of black bears in CT: an overview of black bear habitat, diet, behavior, reproduction and current research.  It also provides practical recommendations for optimum coexistence with our black bear population.  Paul is a graduate of the Master Wildlife Conservationist Program, a CT Department of Energy & Environmental Protection, and a certified Master Wildlife Conservationist (MWC).  This Program is Thanks to Generous Funding from The Friends of C.H. Connecticut Cigar Wrappers: Tuesday January 11 at 7:00pm via Zoom.  John Cilio tells the story of the cigar tobacco leaf wrapper industry in Connecticut. Native Americans taught the English how to grow the product and it has been cultivated ever since. CT began growing tobacco in 1640, eventually producing shade-grown tobacco for wrappers in 1901.  Since then local farmers have produced some of the finest wrappers in the world.  As Connecticut's top agricultural export, it adds $35 million a year to the state's export revenue.  This Program is Thanks to Generous Funding from The Friends of C.H. The Bobcat – Connecticut’s Secretive Wild Cat:  Thursday January 13 7:00pm via Zoom.  Paul Colburn’s presentation focuses on the natural history of bobcats in CT: an overview of their diet, behavior, reproduction and current research.  Mountain Lions are discussed.  Paul is a graduate of the Master Wildlife Conservationist Program, a CT Department of Energy & Environmental Protection, and a certified Master Wildlife Conservationist (MWC).  This Program is Thanks to Generous Funding from The Friends of C.H. The Beauty of Bernini: Renaissance Master: Tuesday January 18 7:00pm via Zoom.  Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Italian sculptor and architect.  Join Toni McKeen as she discusses the deeply ingrained artistic influence this Renaissance Master’s work  has had, and continues to have, on the sculpture & architecture in Italy. Spymistresses - The Story of Allied Women Spies of WWII:  January 25 at 7:00pm via Zoom. John Cilio tells stories about the Spies belonging to a special group of people with flexible identities, elastic morals and situational ethics. They covertly serve their governments, some, multiple governments. Uncover more about a few of the special women that served the Allies. ***Acts of Valor: A Marine & His Translator: Saturday March 5 at 2:00pm LIVE In-Person and via Zoom.*** THIS HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO SATURDAY MARCH 5 at 2:00PM. Chris DiNoto & Karim Ahmadi: A Former Marine & his Afghani Translator, Together Again.  Join us for an In-Person & via Zoom Panel Discussion with Chris DiNoto, a lifelong Newtown, CT resident, his Afghani translator Karim Ahmadi, and Rev. Dr. Steven R. Jungkeit.  Douglas Lord, Library Director, will act as the Introducer and Jennifer Nash will ask the panel questions as the moderator.  Hear the true story of how Chris & Karim met, worked together in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan and finally reunited after trials & tribulations in Kabul during the U.S. Troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.  Rev. Jungkeit, Senior Minister of the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme, will discuss the broader topic of the efforts entailed in housing Afghani refugees in Connecticut.  This Program is Thanks to Generous Funding from The Friends of C.H. Exhibitions at the Library

SCAN-Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, CT: November 2-December 31 - Meeting Room, Entry Hall and beyond elsewhere in the Library. For fifty-two years, The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) has been a nonprofit arts organization from Western Connecticut and surrounding areas. Their goal is to support artists and promote the visual arts in a variety of mediums including: watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media and sculpture.

FANE & FiberWorks: November 2-December 31 (and beyond) in the Gathering Room.  Consolidation of local artist’s work using various fiber techniques: stitching, quilting, weaving, collage & paint, new works added weekly.

The Quilt Shop by Lois’ at C.H. Booth Library: January 2 – March 31 in the Meeting Room & Entry Hall. Quilts & Fabric Art by Lois Mitchell, some of which you might have seen displayed in her own shop on 12 Queen Street in Newtown, CT.

The Institute for American Indian Studies (iaismuseum.org): January 3 – February 28 (or longer) will have exhibitions on the first & third floors of the library. The third floor (Mary Hawley Gallery) display will include the 1st of a 3-part travelling exhibit entitled ‘No Rest’ which opens a dialogue on issues facing the Indigenous Women & Girls of the Native American community. The first floor will exhibit a display case themed toward children.
