Second Company Governor's Horse Guard to Hold Open House

After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the 2nd Company Governor’s Horse Guard (2GHG) will once again be welcoming the general public to their annual Open House scheduled for Saturday, September 10th, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 4 Trades Lane, Newtown.

A family fun event, the day will include horse demonstrations, interactive history display, artifacts that date back to the 1800’s, pony rides, face painting, magician, music, food and more.

“The purpose of the open house is to invite the public to meet the troopers and horses and see exactly who we (2GHG) are. It’s a fun day for kids and an educational day. Connecticut has a very unique militia that we work hard to keep together as volunteers. Hopefully people that come can walk away with a little part of knowing what Connecticut history is with the cavalry”, notes LT Colonel Gordon Johnson, 2GHG.

Established in 1808, the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard (2GHG) is an all-volunteer unit of the Organized State Militia. Upon the request of the office of the Governor of the State of Connecticut, the Adjutant General, municipalities and non-government organizations, the 2GHG participates in ceremonial functions, operates service programs, and entertains the public throughout the State of Connecticut and at its headquarters for the education and benefit of the citizens of the State to promote Connecticut’s rich and revolutionary history.
