History & Purpose

Several years ago, Jeff Wallace, VP of Media and Sponsorship at Live Nation, contacted S.H.O.P. He offered to help secure sponsors to hold a free concert in Sandy Hook. As a result, hundreds in our community enjoyed the show. Since that first year, attendance has grown, and promoting the concert has reached well beyond Sandy Hook.

The event is one of several fundraisers S.H.O.P. executes for initiatives to elevate awareness of the Village of Sandy Hook, its business community, and its impressive history.

One of S.H.O.P.'s recent initiatives is for the Heritage Trail in Sandy Hook. We have been fundraising to build a community space on a piece of town-owned property that we lease for $1/year. The park will include a pavilion, 30 public parking places, and a green space that extends down to the river. To date, we have received:

  • A $128,000 grant from the State of CT
  • A $12,000 matching grant from the Town of Newtown
  • A $50,000 sponsorship for the pavilion structure

Additionally, S.H.O.P. has been fundraising and has raised another $20,000. We also have several commitments for donations in kind of labor and materials. So this puts us at approximately 70% of our total goal of $ 300,000. Construction will start by the end of the summer of 2022.

S.H.O.P. Board members will be on hand to showcase our initiatives for Heritage Park, and concert-goers will have an opportunity to make donations to support the project.
