Malloy names Newtown among towns with most significant storm damage

Today Governor Malloy noted Newtown among towns with the most significant damage from Tuesday’s storm.

Eversource is presently working on some very large circuits that when finished should begin to have a substantial impact on our outage total. After the storm close to 80% of the town was without power and now the total is near 55%. Of course, none of this matters if you are still without power but progress is being made and will continue.

Tomorrow morning dumpsters will be available for the disposal of spoiled food at Newtown High School and the Hawleyville and Dodgingtown Fire Departments. Bottled water is now available at all five fire departments in addition to their exterior water faucets. The Emergency Management Team remains in constant contact and meets in person every morning and afternoon. A senior representative from Eversource was present at both meetings today and will be available tomorrow as well to coordinate efforts. We will provide continue to provide updates as necessary.

Newtown’s First Selectman and the Emergency Management Office continue to urge residents to be safe and stay informed. As we close in on 48 hours following the storm, fatigue sets in as we all do the best we can to manage. This is the time when patience is low and accidents can happen. Please take care of yourself and others.
