Rain and Wind Headed to Connecticut

According to the National Weather Service, a coastal low pressure system is expected to develop and move slowly across the region late Friday night, October 26 and will remain in the area Saturday and into early Sunday. This storm is expected to produce a soaking rain, gusty winds, and coastal flooding.

Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches, locally higher, can be expected, with the majority of the rain falling Saturday and Saturday night. In addition, Northeast winds gusting to 30-40 mph are likely on Saturday. Gusts up to 45 mph are possible along the coast.

With a saturated ground, this may result in isolated downed trees and tree branches, causing isolated power outages.

Coastal flooding:
  • Widespread minor coastal flooding (inundation of 1.0 - 1.5 ft) with localized moderate coastal flooding (2.0-2.5 ft) is possible. The most vulnerable areas will be  along the south shore of Nassau/Western Suffolk and possibly Jamaica Bay.
  • Main concern will be with the high tide cycles during the day Saturday, with residual minor flooding possible Saturday night into Sunday morning.
  • Additionally, 7 to 11 ft surf will be possible along the ocean shoreline Saturday into Saturday night, which could cause widespread beach flooding and erosion during the times of high tide. Impacts to the dunes are expected to be isolated.
