Whip Salon: The Hairbrush Matters! Find Out Why!

Whip Salon on why not all hairbrushes are created equal!

Have you been using the correct brush for your hair type, or for the style you’re trying to achieve? Did you even know there was a correct hairbrush you should be using? The wrong brush can create knots, frizz, and breakage—especially if you already have fine hair. When it comes to hair care, picking out a hairbrush might be an afterthought, but it’s just as important as choosing the right shampoo or conditioner.

You use your hairbrush every day, so it should be something you invest in—and just like your makeup brushes, you’re probably going to need more than one type. Check out this quick breakdown for finding the best brush that’s optimal for your hair type and styling choice.

The Paddle Brush: A must-have! Great for all hair types, but especially for those with long, straight hair. Detangles with ease and smooths straight strands. The cushion of the brush is designed to bend with your scalp to minimize damage when combing through your hair. Use before flat ironing for pin straight locks. Paddle brushes come in a variety of bristle options, so be sure to choose the right type for your hair: For thicker hair, choose a brush with sturdier, synthetic bristles.

The Round Brush: Your blowout’s BFF. Great for medium to thick hair and creating big volume when blow drying. Round brushes come in a variety of sizes and bristle options. For subtle waves, choose a round brush with a larger barrel; for tighter curls, choose a smaller size brush. Although it might take a bit of practice to get the hang of properly finessing a round brush, this is THE best brush for your at-home blowout.

The Wide Tooth Comb: The best brush for detangling wet hair. When your hair is wet, it is most prone to breakage, so making sure you’re using the proper tool is crucial. The extra space between the teeth allows for more hair to pass through, lessening the chance of snagging and knotting your delicate strands. We recommend spraying in a leave-in conditioner after your shower and brushing it through with a wide-tooth comb.

The Vented Brush: Vented brushes have openings in the body of the brush in between the bristles. The openings allow for better airflow, making it great for a quick, rough blow-dry. Since the design of the brush isn’t the best for styling, we recommend following up with a round brush for a more polished look.
