Newtown residents graduate in top 10 at Immaculate High School

Immaculate High School graduated 89 seniors on Wednesday, May 31 at Western Connecticut State University’s O’Neill Center in Danbury, CT. Nicole DiMauro and  Martha Haddad, both of Danbury, were named Valedictorian and Salutatorian respectively.

“We are very proud of all of our graduating seniors. They have excelled throughout their years at Immaculate and are prepared to be leaders of change, leaders of the future,” said Mary Maloney, President of Immaculate High School.  “During the 2016-17 school year, this graduating class contributed over 4,589 hours to a school-wide total of 24,650 hours of community service, received numerous individual athletic SWC and CIAC leadership and sportsmanship awards and were honored in music and the arts, including the Scholastic Arts Awards and Connecticut High School Fine Arts Awards, and participated in the school musical, Fiddler on the Roof, winning the HALO award for Best Classical Musical,” she noted. Of the 89 members of the class, 90% received college scholarships and grants totaling $19 million. The top ten percent of the class achieved an SAT score average of 1384 with 67 students earning GPAs of 3.5 and above.

Nicole DiMauro will attend Northeastern University and Martha Haddad will attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Completing the top ten graduating senior list are Amy Bohling of Brookfield (The University of Notre Dame), Lauren Cirone of Newtown (Boston College), Colm Doherty of Danbury (Northeastern University), Diana Kirkman of Sandy Hook (Villanova University), Joseph Maloney of Newtown (University of Connecticut), Jillian Pruner of Bethel (Boston College), Maria Ringes of Sandy Hook (Boston College) and Jingyu Zhou of Danbury (Case Western Reserve University).

In addition, Jillian Pruner was also named Immaculate High School's Student of the Year for the 2016-17 school year. Jillian earned this honor for consistently demonstrating school spirit and dedication to IHS, strength of character and faith in action through kindness to others, and a passion for learning and going beyond what is expected, including encouraging others to do their best.
