Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra Musicians Visit Sandy Hook Elementary School

Musicians from the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra visited Sandy Hook Elementary School in Sandy Hook on Thursday, January 25th and presented a lively interactive program for 3rd and 4th-grade students.

String trio Chie Yoshinaka, Sue Corey-Sahlin and Gunnar Sahlin demonstrated their instruments and performed a variety of music in a program tailored to the grade level of music education. The students were attentive and enthusiastic as the trio performed pieces by Mozart, Dvorak, Rimsky-Korsakov and others and hands shot in the air when asked if they had questions or comments. Music teacher Maryrose Kristopik led the group in singing the school song to the RSO musicians as a very special ending to the program.

“We love doing programs like this where we bring the music to the schools and are able to engage directly with students,” says RSO Executive Director Laurie Kenagy. “We thank Union Savings Bank as the principal sponsor of the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra’s Education and Outreach Initiative which enables the RSO to make these educational opportunities available.” Outreach is part of the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra’s mission to increase the appreciation for music through community involvement for people of all ages and abilities.
