Newtown First Selectman Declares State of Emergency

Important Storm Update for Town of Newtown

This morning First Selectman Rosenthal declared a state of emergency in Newtown.

Our Emergency Management Team is coordinating with Eversource to direct resources to areas in town that are completely cut off by downed trees and wires, which include but are not limited to: Route 34 / Chestnut Hill Road, Lakeview Terrace, Black Bridge Road / Walnut Tree Hill Road, Lower Pootatuck Park / Edgelake, Currituck Road / Tunnel Road.

Please note, the order of priority is to first clear all roads for emergency vehicles before power restoration efforts begin. The First Selectman is working in conjunction with our state delegation (Sen. Hwang and Rep. Bolinsky) to ensure that Eversource provides the necessary resources to our community.

The Emergency Management Team will reconvene this afternoon and additional updates will be forthcoming via email and/or the Code Red phone messaging system. We are sorry for those without power and we are working to rectify the situation as quickly as possible. Newtown’s First Selectman and the Emergency Management Office urge residents to be safe and stay informed.
