Newtown BOS to present road work plan at July 16 meeting

2018-2019 Road Work Plan to be discussed at Board of Selectmen meeting July 16

First Selectman Dan Rosenthal would like the residents of Newtown to know that he and Director of Public Works, Fred Hurley, will be presenting the 2018/2019 road work plan at the next regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen (BOS) this Monday, July 16, at 7:30p in the Council Chamber of the Newtown Municipal Center.  This meeting will be posted later this week and is open to the public.

In the current fiscal year, which began on July 1st, the total amount allocated to roads is $3.25m, which represents an increase of $750k over last year.  The approach this year will combine paving and chip sealing.  In total nearly 25 miles of road will see work in this budget versus roughly 10 last year.  This is not to suggest that all of our road problems will be solved, but it represents a commitment to that end.

The complete list of roads expands on the list prepared for the 2018/2019 budget vote and will be made available at the BOS meeting.  In addition, the list will be emailed and posted to the town website following the meeting.  Given the importance of our roads, periodic construction updates will be distributed via email and posted to the website as well.
