Root through your junk drawers and car cubbies for any Big Y gold coins you might have stashed away. January 31st marks the last day to redeem them at Big Y Supermarkets. One of their last promotions is for a free reusable shopping bag, including the insulated ones for frozen food, for every gold coin surrendered.
Lauren Morehouse and Lois Barber are asking the public to use their coins to purchase reusable shopping bags and to donate them to their cause. The two women are holding a drive to collect and distribute reusable shopping bags to distribute to those who need them. The bags will be donated to Newtown’s two food banks, Nannuwauk Meadows, and to the general public.
A large cardboard box will be set up in Big Y, Newtown for collecting the free gold coin reusable bags.
