Newtown Resident Performs Lead Role in Danbury Music Centre's Annual Nutcracker Ballet

The Danbury Music Centre’s 52nd production of Nutcracker Ballet will take place on Friday, December 13 at 7:30 pm, Saturday, December 14 at 2:30 AND 7:00 pm; and Sunday, December 15 at 3:00 pm. All performances are in the auditorium of Danbury High School.  

The box office at the Danbury Music Centre, 256 Main Street in Danbury opens on Monday, November 11 at 10:00 am. Tickets are  $27, $32, and $35. and may be purchased by check, cash, or credit card. You can purchase tickets online here or call the Danbury Music Centre (203) 748-1716.  

The Danbury Music Centre's production began in 1967 and continues to be one of Danbury’s favorite annual traditions, anticipated by thousands of people.  Partially funded by the City of Danbury, the Danbury Cultural Commission, William Fricke and Anna Walter, Ortho Connecticut, BMW of Hudson Valley, Peg Heetmann, and Stephen and Joan Howard, a donor-advised fund of the U.S, Charitable Gift Trust. 

The  Danbury Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Ariel Rudiakov, will perform the music of Tchaikovsky. There are approximately 200 dancers in the cast and 20 snowflake singers. The performance is on a professionally lit stage, with professionally built scenery and mostly all hand-made costumes.  

Artistic directors are husband and wife team, Arthur Fredric and Lisa Denton from Brookfield.  The technical directors are Arnold Daley and Matt Ficinus from Danbury and the lighting designer is Peter Petrino from Brewster.

Danbury’s Nutcracker showcases talented dancers from throughout the greater Danbury area. The lead role of the Sugar Plum Fairy will be danced by Taegen Rose Smith from Newtown. Clara will be danced by Shae McGraw from Danbury. The role of Mother Ginger is performed by Mayor Mark Boughton.
