First Selectman statement on racial incident at Congresswoman Hayes during Town Hall event

In a message to Newtown residents, First Selectman Dan Rosenthal said that last night, during a Virtual Town discussion with Congresswoman Hayes and Newtown residents, the conversation was "Zoom bombed" by a person who voice and posted racial epithets directed at the Congresswoman.

"The responsible party was promptly removed and amazingly the Congresswoman carried on as though nothing had happened," Rosenthal explained. He went on to say, "Our politics may be sharply divided but our common decency should unite us. Racism has no home anywhere and if we don't speak out in disgust when it happens to a high profile individual, who will speak out when it happens to our neighbors, friends, or most importantly, our children,"
