Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Mrmrs Creative!

Four questions with Kenyon Phillips, founder of Mrmrs Creative.

Why did you start your business?

We started the business after landing a contract with Madonna to handle all of the marketing creative for the US launch of her skincare line, MDNA SKIN. Instead of being absorbed by the parent company for the line, we opted to become our own creative services agency. We knew this would allow us to work with other celebrity beauty brands if we got referral business, which we thankfully did!

What is your best-selling product/service?

Website design, social media campaigns, and corporate storytelling.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

Most of the local businesses we use are restaurants, which we often patronize for meals with clients. They include the three excellent restaurants owned and operated by Clark and Kate Neugold: The Foundry, Marygold’s, and Good Old Days, which has even better pizza than I used to get when I lived in Rome! I’m hard of hearing, so local audiologist Anne Lynn is a huge help whenever my hearing aids need to be repaired. Thanks to Anne, I can always hear the audio for the videos, voiceovers, and music I create for our clients!

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

The chief way that we’ve reimagined our small business is by making it completely remote. When we lived in NYC before the pandemic, we worked from home but spent a fair amount of time onsite with our clients. Since the pandemic and our subsequent relocation to Sandy Hook, we hardly ever have in-person meetings or shoots – everything is done remotely via Zoom, Google Meet, or FaceTime.

Kenyon would like to nominate The Foundry and its owners, Clark and Kate Neugold as well as Anne Lynn to be featured next - "A wonderful restaurant in the heart of Sandy Hook that’s a sure bet for client dinners. Their other two restaurants are amazing, too, Good Old Days Pizza and Marygold’s. We also nominate Anne Lynn, a wonderful audiologist with a small practice in Sandy Hook Village."
