Newtown Budget Referendum Vote is Tuesday

The Referendum will be held on Tuesday, April 25th, 2017 from 6:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. at 11 Queen Street, Newtown Middle School Gymnasium.

Budget facts:

1) the BoS spending plan is $40,399,575

2) the BoE spending plan is $72,995,575

3) debt obligations are 7.9% of total budget The total request for the Town of Newtown includes a mill rate increase of 0.27, and a budget increase of 0.82%. State revenue is expected to decline.

Pursuant to Conn. General Statutes Sec. 7-6, any person who is a registered voter in the Town of Newtown or who is a U.S. citizen assessed for at least $1,000 for Real Estate or Motor Vehicles on the 2016 Grand List for the Town of Newtown is qualified to vote at the Referendum.

Any qualified person who meets any of the following criteria may vote by absentee ballot:

1) active service in the Armed Forces

2) absence from the Town during all the hours of voting

3) illness

4) physical disability

5) religious tenets which forbid secular activity on the day of the Referendum

6) duties as a Referendum official at a polling place other than your own during all hours of voting.
