Severe Cold Weather Alert

Connecticut is forecast to experience a long duration of extremely cold temperatures that could last into next week, which will contain single digit temperatures along with wind chill temperatures below zero degrees. Newtown’s First Selectman and the Emergency Management Office urge residents to be prepared for severe cold weather and ask that every resident make appropriate preparations to ensure personal safety and readiness.

Also, take action to protect your pets and please review your preparedness.

Residents can come to the locations listed below to seek relief from the cold

Cyrenius Booth Library, 25 Main Street, Newtown. Tel (203) 426-4533 Hours: Mon thru Thurs – 9:30 am to 8 pm, Fri – 11 am to 5 pm; Sat 9:30 am to 5 pm; The library will be closed Sunday Dec. 31st and Monday Jan. 1st .

Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, Newtown. Tel (203) 426-2475 Has several movies and activities this weekend. Visit Edmond Town Hall online here.

The Municipal Center, located at Fairfield Hills and the Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road, Sandy Hook, are typically open Monday through Friday. We ask that you please check on any elderly or frail neighbors to be certain they are doing OK in this weather.
