A message from longtime Newtown Detective Jason Frank

After 25 years with the department, Newtown Detective Jason Frank announces his retirement. Please read his heartfelt message to the community below.

Today, August 19, 2021 is a bittersweet day for me.  Since 1996, I have had the honor and privilege of serving with the Newtown Police Department. I could not have found a better place to have an enriching law enforcement career than Newtown, Connecticut.

After 25 years with the department, I am retiring today to start the next chapter in my life. I will miss the deeply intriguing and intellectually stimulating police work that has taken me from a rookie officer, field training officer, school resource officer, trainer, instructor,  fire investigator, hostage negotiator to a detective, where I have worked on all the high-profile felony cases in this town over the last few decades. But, most of all, I will miss the people I worked with every day. From co-workers and elected administrators to the multitudes of people I assisted and only met once during my tenure.

My experience in this town is not like what you see as portrayed in the news. When the media tend to see the negative, I know that the police officers in this town are dedicated and serve with kindness and professionalism. And Newtown is a welcoming, resilient, and caring community. Thank you, Newtown, for having the confidence in me to assist your townspeople in good times and challenging moments. I will remember and cherish the warmth of its people and the professional opportunities I have had.  I want to wish all of my fellow officers a  great career.  Stay healthy and stay safe!
