Newtown Police Department Celebrates 50 Years, Event Includes Tours of New Facility

On Saturday, November 13th a ceremony was held at the Newtown Police Department to celebrate the Department's 50th year anniversary as an organized Police Department.

The Newtown Police Department was incorporated on September 21, 1971, with Chief Lou Marchese and 13 officers.  As the current members of the Newtown Police Department, their families and many retired Newtown officers looked on, First Selectman Dan Rosenthal presented Chief of Police James Viadero with a commemorative plaque in appreciation for the past 50 years of public service to the citizens of Newtown.

After a short ceremony and group photographs, all were invited inside the new Police Department building for refreshments and a chance to tour the new facility.
