FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE U.S. House takes action in support of community violence intervention NEWTOWN, Conn. — Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the “Break the Cycle of Violence Act,” which supports community violence intervention. Mark Barden, co-founder and CEO of the Sandy Hook Promise Action Fund and father of Daniel, who was killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy, issued the following statement in response: “Gun violence is not inevitable; it’s preventable when communities have the resources and tools to intervene. We commend the House for passing the ‘Break the Cycle of Violence Act,’ which will give communities the support they need to take action to stop gun violence. Research shows that gun violence is the leading cause of death among children, this legislation is desperately needed to help protect them.
“We encourage the Senate to act now to protect communities from gun violence — especially our children — by passing the ‘Break the Cycle of Violence Act.’ Every day we delay in passing this legislation means more gun violence and more deaths. Our children deserve swift action.” |
