Two Norfolk organizations have joined forces to conduct two food drives - back to back. From May 8 through May 26, the Botelle School students and staff will be collecting non-perishable food for local food banks. Non-perishable items may be dropped off at the school during those dates.
At the conclusion of the Botelle drive, Norfolk's Immaculate Conception Church will be sponsoring a summer-long food drive, calling it the "Moved By Mercy" food drive. This second drive will kick off on Memorial Day during registration for the Memorial Day 5K Road Race at the ball field on Mountain Road.
Items needed for both collections include:
- Soup
- Peanut Butter
- Jelly
- Canned fruit
- Juice or powdered drink mix
- Canned beef stew/chili
- Canned tuna, chicken, salmon
- Canned vegetable
- Boxed rice, pasta, mac & cheese
- Pasta sauce
- Applesauce
- Sugar, creamer, coffee
- Cereal
- Pancake Mix
- Syrup
- Pudding
- Mayo, ketchup, BBQ sauce
- Gift cards to grocery stores
At the conclusion of the road race, donations will be accepted on Village Green near the finish line. The drive will continue throughout the summer and culminate at the church's annual community picnic in August.
All food collected will be donated to FISH in Torrington and The Open Door Soup Kitchen in Winsted.
