Introducing: A NORFOLK MAKERSPACE (a project of Norfolk NET)
All are welcome to the Norfolk Makerspace August Open House on Saturday, August 17, from 2 to 4 p.m., located in the lower level of Battell Chapel, 12 Village Green, Norfolk, CT.
Our featured maker this month is Doreen Breen, longtime resident of Thomaston, who will be showcasing her Warrior Women Clothing Collection. The current zeitgeist (mood) of female empowerment, coupled with inspiration from ancient Siberian warrior remains of “Jane” and “The Ice Princess,” inspired Doreen to create this collection of upcycled, wearable art. “I am honored to be featured at the Norfolk Makerspace and to have the opportunity to share my vision,” says Doreen. “Women are moving to the forefront of our culture and society. They are the change makers.”
Quilling demonstrations will also be given by Melanie Allen, our youngest maker at age 9. In addition, Melanie will be hosting a special “Kids Table,” with construction paper, punches, and markers.
Other local artists and makers offering hands-on demonstrations at our August Open House include Eve and John Thew, Chaya Stone, The Norfolk Knitters, Kathy Williams of the Artisan’s Guild, Karen Rossi, Pamela Harnois, Leslie Watkins, and Sara Frieze. Adults and children of all ages are invited to sew, paint, watercolor, or create a journal, and more.
Visitors to Makerspace are invited to explore the lower level of Battell Chapel as our classrooms transform into new creative spaces featuring looms, tools, arts and crafts, a bike repair station, and computers.
Norfolk NET Makerspace will continue hosting Open Houses on the third Saturday of each month, through December. Any local artists, engineers, or other creatives are welcome to demonstrate and share their knowledge and inspiration at future events. Our next Open Houses are scheduled for: September 21, October 19, November 16, and December 21. Please save those dates and help us grow!
