All are welcome to the Norfolk Makerspace September Open House on Saturday, September 21st, from 2:00-4:00pm, located in the lower level of Battell Chapel, 12 Village Green, Norfolk, CT.
Our featured artist, Leslie Watkins, will demonstrate various botanical watercolor painting techniques. Leslie uses flowers she grows in the gardens at Dandelion Cottage, her home and studio in Norfolk, CT. Leslie will also discuss the tools needed to create her art, inspired by nature. Examples of the artist’s watercolor paintings, nature journals, handmade boxes, and simple notecards will be on display.
“Art and Nature have been the primary focus of my life,” says Leslie. "When I paint a landscape or a flower, design a garden or write about nature––it’s all the same to me. Close observation of nature helps to broaden my understanding of what I love and to hopefully inspire others to do the same.”
Visitors to the Makerspace can join in the fun. John Thew will host a watercolor painting table for anyone who would like to experiment with watercolor techniques. Eve Thew invites you to join her to make a pillow for your special room. Karen Rossi will have supplies for you to make a miniature sand meditation garden and we'll have a special table with arts and crafts for little ones.
In addition, Alesia Maltz will be in our Loom Room. Anyone interested may join in weaving a hug blanket. The hug blankets are gifts to children in need who are crossing at the border. On an ongoing basis, Sue Williams will host the Loom Room on Tuesdays from 1-3 for anyone interested in weaving or dropping off more blankets. Over 50 blankets have been amassed for the project in just a month and a half.
Please save the third Saturday (2-4 pm) of each month through December, and continue to join us (Oct. 19, Nov. 16, Dec. 21). Please follow and share our Norfolk CT makerspace Facebook and Meetup pages. For more information: contact Karen Rossi (860) 305-6579,
