Jumpfest Winter Festival 2015 promises to be bigger and better than ever, as new events have been added to the already action-packed schedule.
The week preceding Jumpfest, starting on Friday, January 30, will feature art shows, a restaurant week including 30 area eateries, a martial arts exhibition, wine tasting, curling open house, local school sports events as well as many, many business deals and giveaways.
Friday February 6, at Satre Hill in Salisbury, Friday Nite Lights will again feature target ski jumping under the lights, a restaurant chili cook-off and the ever-popular Human Dogsled Race (where five people pull one rider on a team-designed sled).
Saturday, February 7 begins with a junior ski jumping competition at Satre Hill, where our junior competitors get to display their skills, followed by the Salisbury Invitational Tournament featuring jumpers from the eastern division. Downtown in Salisbury at LaBonne's Square, some of the area’s most talented ice artists will hold a day-long ice carving demonstration. New this year will be a sledding party for the kids at Camp Sloane in Lakeville and for the adults, a Leafblower Air Hockey Tournament (yes, you read that right).
Meanwhile, over at the Scoville Memorial Library, the folks from EXTRAS will be entertaining the youngsters (Saturday and Sunday) with winter-related games and projects.
And speaking of youngsters, back at Satre Hill kids can try out Salisbury Winter Sports Association's (SWSA) new ski jump simulator that gently mimics the ski jumping experience.
For the grownups, there will be a Hillrock Bourbon tasting at the Interlaken Inn in Lakeville, and Saturday night, the Nice Ones and TreeTop will entertain at the Snow Ball at the Lakeville Hose Company.
Start Sunday off right at the Salisbury Volunteer Ambulance Breakfast, followed by a day of ski jumping at Satre Hill. A horse-drawn wagon will help ferry visitors to different venues in Salisbury both Saturday and Sunday.
Admission to all events at Satre Hill is $15 per adult and children 12 and under are free. Admission to the Snow Ball is $15.
