Local Twins’ Marathon Successes Bring Them a Winning Role.
Organizers of Weekend in Norfolk (WIN) have given successful marathoners Mary Bazzano-Reeve and Margaret (Bazzano) Alexson of Norfolk a new role. The dynamic women are winning again as the WIN Twins—the public faces of the town-wide open house coming up soon on August 5, 6 and 7. Wearing WIN t-shirts and their most brilliant smiles, the WIN Twins are being featured in photographs at event venues, restaurants, B&B's and other special places everywhere in town.
The sisters, who are Norfolk born and bred, first ran a marathon in Hartford in 2012. Since then, they’ve moved on to longer, more challenging races, such as a Carmel to Monterey, Calif., race over grueling terrain, and a 50-miler from the town of Marathon, Fla., to Key West. They won fourth and fifth place overall in the Florida race and crossed the finish line holding hands. At home they run five miles every day during the week and at least 9 to 10 miles a day on weekends.
Asked to help publicize Weekend in Norfolk, the two flashed their signature smiles and jumped right in. They have since covered a lot of territory around town, with photographers snapping away. They’ve appeared in front of the Mountain View Inn, inside the Manor House and Blackberry River Inns, inside Infinity Hall, on the terraces at Infinity Bistro and Wood Creek Bar & Grill, at Station Place Café and the Artisans Guild, on the Village Green. The list of events is now at 57 and counting as the latest additions keep the WIN Twins running.
