State Representative Brian Ohler (R-64) has been asked to serve as a Ranking Member to the Regulations and Protection Subcommittee of the Appropriations Committee. The Subcommittee oversees the Insurance Department, Department of Consumer Protection, Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities, Workers Compensation Commission, and the Military Department.State Representative Melissa Ziobron (R-34), Ranking Member of the Appropriations Committee, made the appointment.
In regard to the appointment of the first-term legislator, Rep. Ziobron stated, “Representative Ohler has distinguished himself as a thoughtful legislator. In all of our budget proposals, he has made valuable contributions and his knowledge in public safety is a perfect background for him to take the lead for the House Republican caucus, as the Ranking member of the Appropriations Regulation and Protection subcommittee.”
The function of the Subcommittees within the Appropriations Committee is to focus on the budgetary operations of the state departments, and entities, that each specific Subcommittee oversees. After review, the Subcommittees report findings and recommendations to the entire Appropriations Committee to improve such operations.

The Regulations and Protection Subcommittee is a critical component within the Appropriations Committee. It is no secret that our state is in the midst of a severe financial predicament. It is absolutely vital for those state departments who are charged with the overall protection of our citizens have the resources to be financially stable and viably operational to best serve our residents,” stated Rep. Ohler.
Ohler’s appointment is effective immediately.
