Baltimore Ravens Win Super Bowl XLVII

In a Super Bowl where two brothers were the opposing coaches, John Harbaugh’s Baltimore Ravens topped his brother Jim and the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 in a thriller.

Early in the game the Ravens were in control up 28-6 at the start of the third quarter and before there was a 35 minute delay when some of the Superdome’s lights went out. The Niners answered with three scores, a Michael Crabtree touchdown reception, a Frank Gore running TD, and a David Akers FG. A Ravens FG followed by Niners QB Colin Kaepernick’s TD run made it 31-29 Ravens.

Late in the fourth quarter, Kaepernick and the Niners offense stalled inside the Ravens five yard line needing a touchdown as they were down 34-29. With time not on their side, Ravens punter Sam Koch ran around in the end zone to waste more time off the clock and gave the 49ers a safety and a free kick that the Niners could not capitalize on with less than 10 seconds remaining.

Ravens QB Joe Flacco, who has a stellar postseason was named Super Bowl MVP and finished with 287 yards passing and three TD passes. This game was also the last for Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis.
