2nd Annual Celebration of the Norwalk River Valley Trail on Saturday, May 4

Friends of the Norwalk River Valley Trail (NRVT) are excited to announce the 2nd Annual Celebration of the Norwalk River Valley Trail, scheduled for Saturday, May 4th, from 10 AM to 2 PM along various sections in Norwalk. This free event welcomes all members of the community to join in the festivities and experience the beauty of the NRVT.

The Celebration will kick off with an opening ceremony at 10 AM at the NRVT kiosk, where the NRVT intersects with the Harbor Loop Trail. Officials will be in attendance to mark the beginning of the event, followed by a bagpiper who will lead everyone to Union Park, one of the three (3) hubs of activities for the day.

At each of the hubs, located at Union, Mathews, and Oyster Shell Parks, attendees will have the opportunity to engage with various recreational and environmental groups, who will provide valuable information and resources about their respective initiatives.

Activities planned for the day include:

Walk from Opening Ceremony to Oyster Shell Park: Join the scenic walk departing from the opening ceremony location at 10:15 AM, heading towards Union Park.

Help Eradicate Invasive Species: Norwalk River Watershed Association volunteers will be on hand at 10:30 AM at Oyster Shell Park (as they are every Saturday) to restore native plants to this unique part of the trail.

Birding Walk from Riverside Ave along the Norwalk River: Embark on a guided birding walk led by NRVT Board President, Charlie Taney, starting at 11:00 AM. Meet at the NRVT parking lot and explore the stretch along the Norwalk River from Riverside Ave to Broad St.

Bike Ride from Mathews Park to Calf Pasture Beach: Experience the beauty of the trail on a bike ride departing from Mathews Park at noon, with the

destination set for Calf Pasture Beach and where Open Streets – Walk, Bike, & Roll Festival activities will be taking place.

Run from Aquarium to Broad St: Lace up your running shoes and participate in the exhilarating off-road 10k-ish run, starting from the Maritime Aquarium at 12:30 PM .

"We are thrilled to host the 2nd Annual Celebration of the Norwalk River Valley Trail and invite the community to join us for a day of outdoor adventure and environmental stewardship," said Nancy Rosett, NRVT Board member and event organizer.
