CMT Scores Released This Week Show Slight Drop Statewide

Earlier this week, the scores of the statewide Connecticut Mastery Tests given to all public school elementary students from grades 3-8 were released to the public. Overall, the state saw a drop in the number of students who achieved goal on the tests.

A news release from the State Department of Education said, "Student performance data on the CMT show decreases in all grades and content areas as compared to last year." The State Department sighted the transition from traditional teaching methods to the new nationwide Common Core standards as a reason for the drop in scores.

New Fairfield students beat the state's percentage for students scoring "At or Above Proficiency" in all subjects across all grades by at least a few percentage points, sometimes as many as ten or more. View the town-wide scores as compared to state scores click here.
