Underground Explosion Dislodges Manholes, Shatters NY Bakery Windows

Tom Kulhawik, Chief of Police for the Norwalk Police Department, tweeted this morning around 9:00 a.m., that officers reported two underground explosions around Main St & Wall St in Norwalk, causing manholes to dislodge. No injuries were reported. The Norwalk police and fire department arrived on scene to secure the area and determine the cause of the explosion.

Chief Kulhawik later tweeted that CL&P were called to the scene and were "working on the issue on Main," and said that there "appears to be an electrical issue and no evidence of any gas issues."

The only apparent damage from the explosion appears to be the front windows to NY Bakery, which Chief Kulhawik tweeted were shattered.

As on now, Main Street between Cross and Wall will remain closed to traffic including Main & Hoyt. To stay up to date with this story, follow Chief Kulhawik on twitter here.
