NORWALK SYMPHONY PRESENTS MOZART’S “DON GIOVANNI” THIS WEEKEND!
Norwalk, CT – The Norwalk Symphony Orchestra is proud to join forces with a roster of exceptional soloists to present Mozart’s iconic opera Don Giovanni! Hailed as the epitome of 18th-century artistry, the opera tells the tale of the most notorious womanizer ever born, with some of the most glorious music ever written. The work combines intense drama, uproarious comedy, and supernatural mystery, making it one of the most popular operas of all time. Beneath the surface lies a damning critique of aristocratic sexism and greed, with Giovanni ultimately dragged to Hell. Christopher Mirto returns to once again provide his uniquely inventive stage direction.
“We are absolutely delighted to produce our fifth concert opera staging of my tenure” says Music Director Jonathan Yates. “Audiences have loved our previous operas, with singers that sing at major international opera houses (including the Met), and with extremely creative staging that involves the singers appearing all over the hall, and audience participation! Because of the incredible amount of time and effort that goes into these events, we only present an opera every other year—so I strongly recommend this musical opportunity to audience members.”
The stellar cast includes Hyung Yun as Don Giovanni, Nathan Stark as Leporello, Katherine Whyte as Donna Elvira, Mary Feminear as Donna Anna and Derrek Stark as Don Ottavio. Also joining the cast is Alina Tamborini as Zerlina, Mark Hosseini as Masetto and Jonathan Kimple as Commendatore.
Don Giovanni is the final performance of the 85th Anniversary season. Norwalk Symphony is unique in its presentation of opera and Broadway concerts as part of their regular line up. The organization also seeks collaborations with regional nonprofits.
