Connecticut Food Bank Walk Against Hunger is Saturday, May 18th

The Connecticut Food Bank 2019 Walk Against Hunger is set for Saturday, May 18, at 10:00AM, at Savin Rock Park in West Haven, rain or shine. The event features a two-mile walk along the Savin Rock Park waterfront, as well as kids’ activities, music, awards for team themes and team spirit, and food for participants. Online registration at www.ctfoodbank.org/walk. Onsite check-in begins at 8:30AM.

Walk Against Hunger is a community gathering to raise funds to fight hunger and increase awareness of the issue in our communities and to raise funds to support the hunger fighting work of the Connecticut Food Bank.

Event check-in opens at 8:30AM and the walk begins at 10:00AM. The walk will follow a two-mile, paved, and level path along the shoreline in Savin Rock Park. The route is friendly to walkers of all abilities. Individuals and Walk teams can pre-register online at www.ctfoodbank.org/walk. Registration is free of charge. Walkers who donate or raise $40 or more will earn a commemorative Walk Against Hunger t-shirt.

Now in its 42nd year, Walk Against Hunger has attracted thousands of walkers and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support hunger relief. Participants in the Walk raise funds by securing donations for their Walk team from their community and social networks prior to the event. “The Walk is a great way to gather friends, family, or colleagues and get on the move in support of our hunger fighting mission,” said Connecticut Food Bank CEO Bernie Beaudreau. “It’s an important issue, but we hope the day is one of fun and celebration as we gather in support of a great cause.” Beaudreau encouraged teams to get creative with names, themes, and attire. “Show your spirit! We have seen fun and inspiring messages and outfits in the past. And we love seeing everyone’s friendly pups along the walk route.”

Proceeds from the Walk Against Hunger power the hunger fighting mission of the Connecticut Food Bank, Beaudreau said. “More than 144,000 people each month visit our network of nearly 700 community-based food assistance programs seeking food. The dollars raised at the Walk mean the Connecticut Food Bank will have more resources to support their efforts.”

The Walk Against Hunger will be held rain or shine, Saturday, May 18, at Savin Rock Park in West Haven. Check-in begins at 8:30AM and the Walk begins at 10:00AM. Registration and information are available online at www.ctfoodbank.org/walk.
