Norwalk pizza shop donates all specialty pizza to American Cancer Society during October

The American Cancer Society is excited to be the recipient for Letizia’s Pizza 3rd annual “Gertie’s Pie of Hope” for breast cancer awareness during the month of October.  A local favorite for more than 50 years, Norwalk-based Letizia’s has created a specialty pie named in honor of the owner’s grandmother who succumb to breast cancer. Gertie’s Pie made with macaroni and cheese, bacon and breadcrumbs on Letizia’s award-winning pizza, and available from October 1 to October 31.  The cost of a pie is $14.

“Everybody at Letizia's has lost a loved one due to cancer,” says Letizia’s Pizza’s Danny Segers, “Because of this, a few years ago we decided we wanted to do something in their honor. Being that October is National Pizza Month, as well as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we created a specialty Mac & Cheese pizza that we would only sell during the month of October. We named this pizza Gertie's Pie of Hope, in honor of Dennis' mother who succumbed to breast cancer.”

Unlike many promotions, 100 percent of the proceeds from Gertie’s Pie support the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign.  Since Letizia launched the campaign nearly $10,000 has been donated to the American Cancer Society.  “Dollars raised help the American Cancer Society fund innovative breast cancer research; provide education and guidance to help people reduce their risk; and offer comprehensive patient support to those who need it most,” according to Katie DiVenuto of the American Cancer Society.  This year, 3490 women in CT will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 430 residents will succumb to the disease, according to the American Cancer Society.

The public is encouraged to purchase “Gertie’s Pie of Hope” or donate to their fundraising efforts throughout the month of October.  For more information and to order, visit Letizia’s Pizza at 666 Main Avenue in Norwalk, call (203) 847-6022 or visit www.letiziaspizza.com
