Fairfield's 34th Annual Holocaust Commemoration

The Town of Fairfield's 34th Annual Holocaust Commemoration will take place on Wednesday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m. at First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road in Fairfield.

This moving service will feature a presentation by Dr. Richard Freund, professor at the University of Hartford, who headed a team of archaeologists which, in the summer of 2016, undertook a project in Vilnius, Lithuania to confirm the location of the Great Synagogue and who, through the use of modern, non-invasive technology, also confirmed the existence and location of the escape tunnel from which eighty Lithuanian Jews escaped from the killing pits in the Ponar Forest, eleven of whom survived the escape and later told the amazing story of their forced labor and ultimately their escape.  There is no charge for attending the Commemoration and all are welcome.  Refreshments and a reception will follow the Commemoration.
