Youth Weekly Classes (Ages 6 – 17)

September 16 – December 20, 2018

 

Unplug from technology and engage with the arts while discovering the transformational qualities of working with clay. Your child will make new friends while expanding their imaginations and creating something of their own. Hand-building classes are offered for ages 6 – 9, wheel-throwing classes for ages 10 – 17. Taught by professional ceramic artists who specialize in kindling a passion for creative expression in children. Youth Classes run September 16 – December 20. Winner Westchester Family Favorite and Kids Out & About Reader Favorite for 2018.

Nature in Clay (Ages 6 – 9)

Sunday 10:30 – 12:00pm, September 16 – December 9

$300 member, $320 non-member

Create the world in Clay! Students will learn how to pinch and coil and slab build. They will put their new skills to work while exploring the various types of ecosystems, including marshlands, grasslands, forests, deserts and the ocean. Students will learn about natural environments and sculpt plant life and animals.

Sculptural ceramics (Ages 9 – 13)

Monday, 4 – 6pm

2 Sessions – Sept. 17 – Oct 29 & Nov. 19 – Dec. 12

$170 member, $190 non-member per session

Students will learn advanced hand-building techniques, and use them to create their own corner of the world! Students may focus on naturally occurring ecosystems, or create a unique world of their own. Look to local ecosystems to learn about the interaction between the environment, wildlife, plant life and humans. Strike your own balance in nature as you create a world of your own complete with creatures that are only waiting to be discovered in your imagination.

Tween Wheel (Ages 10 – 12)

Sunday, 1 – 3pm or Thursday, 4 – 6pm

2 sessions – Sept. 20 – Nov. 1 & Nov. 15 – Dec. 20

$170 member, $190 non-member per session

Center, Pull and throw as you learn how to use the potter’s wheel. Consider the vital role of ceramics before the age of plastics. Explore the ecosystems and ancient villages that developed around water and clay sources. Focus on building basic pottery skills with a sculptural touch, as you decorate your pots with lush plants, animals and historic civilizations.

Teen Wheel (Ages 12 and up)

Sunday, 12:30 – 2:30pm, September 16 – December 9

$300 members, $320 non-members

Learn about local and global ecosystems while mastering the pottery wheel. Integrate elements of nature into your pots as you explore the intricacies of any ecosystem. Focus on decoration as we draw inspiration from the environment. Carve, sculpt and glaze your pots while considering including plant life, wildlife and water systems all of which have an impact on one another.
