IMAX Movie Backyard Wilderness Now Playing at the Maritime Aquarium

“Backyard Wilderness,” the IMAX movie filmed in Westchester County, N.Y., and showing now at The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, swept the top prizes in the recent Giant Screen Cinema Association’s 2018 Film Awards.

“Backyard Wilderness” was named Best Film (Short Subject), Best Cinematography, Best Film for Lifelong Learning, and Best Visual Effects at the ceremony, held on Sept. 21 during the GSCA’s annual conference in Chatanooga, Tenn.

The movie was filmed and produced by Andrew Young and Susan Todd of Archipelago Films nearly entirely in and around their home in Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.  Its timely message: we can discover and celebrate the wonders of nature right outside our own homes – if we would just put down our devices. The movie shows how we are so absorbed in the digital realm that we overlook a menagerie of real wildlife right outside our back door, including deer, coyotes, wood ducks, frogs, salamanders, raccoons, hummingbirds and more.

“Backyard Wilderness” captures the beauty of a suburban wilderness in rare intimacy – with cameras mounted inside dens and nests, moving along forest floor and pond bottom, and (through time-lapse and slow-motion) revealing marvels of nature unavailable to the human eye.

Now through Oct. 4, “Backyard Wilderness” plays at at noon daily.
