The Norwalk Land Trust is hosting a Walk in the Woods Saturday (Dec. 15) at the White Barn Preserve in the Cranberry District (78 Cranbury Rd.), an outing open to the public and offering environmental insights, philosophy and tai chi, a gentle form of exercise to combat stress.
Bill Wrenn, newly named director of the land trust, is the walk leader. Wrenn is a professional photographer, nature enthusiast and birder. He is a member of the NLT board and a former member of the Norwalk Common Council. He teaches tai chi and qigong classes at the Norwalk Library, New Canaan YMCA and other venues in Fairfield County.
The activities run from 10 a.m. to noon with parking on the street near the entrance to the preserve.
“Come and lift your spirits,” says the NLT, a nonprofit steward to 100 acres of open space in the community.
The NLT is also urging support for a ban on plastic bags that are harmful to the environment, an issue to be discussed Dec. 18 (Tuesday) at a public hearing at 7 p.m. arranged by the Ordinance Committee of the Norwalk Common Council. Proposed is a Plastic Checkout Bag Ban Ordinance.
“This is an important opportunity for us to make a huge difference in the amount of single-use plastics in our environment. If Norwalk can do this, many other cities and towns may follow. This ban has been organized by Skip the Plastic Norwalk and we at the Norwalk Land Trust wholeheartedly endorse it.”
The public meeting is set for the Common Council Chambers on the third floor at City Hall.
