Rowayton Arts Center Offers New Adult Class “Creating Your Artist Book” Starting May 8

The Rowayton Arts Center (RAC) is offering a new adult class, “Creating Your Artist Book,” on Wednesday mornings from 10am to 1 pm, beginning May 8, 2019. The instructor, Mari Gyorgyey, will have students sketching, collaging, sewing, painting, and writing – sometimes all at the same time in an effort to create their own personal book of images, items and words.

Students will have the choice of working in a premade book or binding new pages with basic stitching and create covers. Varnishes and gloss mediums among many other materials will be discussed.

Mari Gyorgyey is best known for her nonlinear narrative art which flows into book arts, pen and ink drawings, paintings, computer imagery, and fine art etchings. Mari’s approach can be described as figurative and expressionistic. Since earning her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, and MFA from University of Pennsylvania, Gyorgyey has shown her work domestically and internationally with solo shows in Tapio Gyorgy, Hungary, and Budapest, Hungary as well as Stamford, CT. She has won printmaking awards from the University of Pennsylvania, Dharma Silk Company, and the Center for Contemporary Printmaking.

Fee for the eight-session class is $255. Please note there is a supply list for the class posted online. Visit rowaytonarts.org/education or call 203-866-2744 (x-2) for more information.
