Douglas David will be teaching a workshop, “Painting Seascapes in Oils” at the Rowayton Arts Center (RAC) during the weekend of June 29 and 30, from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday. The class will cover the basic principles of oil painting with regard to seascape painting and will pair nicely with the historic Greens Ledge Lighthouse.
An optional boat excursion Friday evening to take your own reference photos will kick off this workshop. After a brief morning intro and a time to mix palettes and pare down materials, Douglas will demo a seascape so that students understand the principles of light and shadow, close and far. Students will work on small, medium or large canvases and the emphasis will be on capturing the time of day, atmosphere and geographical elements in a quick concise way based on the covered principles.
Douglas David has painted his way across the country, capturing the beauty and spirit of the things he loves – tranquil country landscapes, sunrises and sunsets on his favorite beaches, a simple pitcher of spring lilacs or peonies. A recipient of numerous regional and national awards and honors, Douglas’ teaching is a way of giving back and sharing some of his journey with those who choose to study with him.
