The City of Norwalk Joins International Make Music Day on Friday, June 21

All-day Schedule to Fill Norwalk Neighborhoods with Live Music

Commencement Ceremony with Mayor Harry Rilling, 12 Noon, Norwalk Green

The city of Norwalk gears up for Make Music Day, the annual global celebration of music occurring on the summer solstice, returns this year on Friday, June 21 with over 5,000 free indoor/outdoor concerts, music lessons, jam sessions and other magnificent music-making events being held in more than 80 U.S. cities. A worldwide phenomenon observed by hundreds of millions of people in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries, the daylong musical free-for-all on June 21 brings musicians of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels together to make, enjoy, perform, teach and learn music. Spearheaded by the Wall Street Neighborhood Association and supported by Norwalk Now, Norwalk’s Make Music Day Schedule can be viewed at www.Norwalknow.org.

Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music Day celebrates and promotes the natural music maker in all of us, regardless of ability. Reimagining our cities and towns as stages, every kind of musician – young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion – pours onto streets, parks, plazas, porches, rooftops, gardens and other public spaces to celebrate, create and share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers. Joined by statewide cities including Stamford, Fairfield, New Haven, and Hartford, Norwalk venues will also include restaurants, bars, theaters, and attractions.

Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling will officiate the Make Music Day Commencement Ceremony at 12 Noon at the Norwalk Green, followed by a performance from saxophonist Jim Clark and friends featuring Neddy G Smith.  A robust schedule with over 30 live performances runs the gamut from a local neighborhood porch jam with the Ritzy Chickens and a Norwalk High School Jazz Combo at Mr. Frosty’s, to the debut of Danny Evans’ original “Norwalk Now” track and a special performance by Stomp Box Relics and Ed Train featuring Tom The Suit Forst at Bobby Q’s Cue & Co. Outdoor music can be enjoyed at Freese Park with a 5-9 PM performance line-up that includes Smokin' Charlie, Juicy Grapes, and Brian Larney, as well as  music at Mill Hill Historical Park with the Spirit of Black Rock Fife and Drum Corp from 6:30-8 PM. Look for acoustic performances at Harbor Harvest Market with Joni Wallace and at Caffe Social with Nick DuPuy, songs of hope, healing and inspiration  with Christina Conners: Dream Bigger in Concert at the Norwalk Public Library, and  Acoustic Gems & Folk Singalong at the Rene Soto Art Gallery.  Visit www.Norwalknow.org for the most update schedule information.

All performances are free of charge. Music-goers are encouraged to post event photos on social media with #norwalknow and #makemusicnorwalk to bring attention to Norwalk’s numerous local businesses, attractions, and talented local musicians.
