Special Programs and Discounts for Homeschool Families Offered On Oct. 2 at The Maritime Aquarium

Homeschool families can take a special educational dive into the marine world through discounted admission and grade-appropriate programs on Wed., Oct. 2 during “Homeschool Day” in The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk.

This focused day makes available to homeschool students many of the educational classroom programs regularly presented to traditional school groups by Aquarium educators.

“You shouldn’t have to be enrolled in a formal school setting to have access to the unique educational programs of The Maritime Aquarium, so we’re happy to offer this special day and these unique learning opportunities to the many homeschooling parents and students in the tri-state area,” said Tom Naiman, the Aquarium’s director of Education.

Nine drop-off-style program offerings include: a 45-minute “Meet the Animals” touch program for ages 4 to 6; a one-hour introduction to creatures that live in Long Island Sound’s intertidal zone for ages 7 to 10; a 90-minute dissection program for ages 10 to 13; and a 2.5-hour ocean conservation class for ages 13 to 15.

Plus, two-hour Marine Life Encounter Cruises aboard the Aquarium research vessel are available at 9 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. (All cruise participants must be at least 42 inches tall. Those under age 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.)

Discounted admission for homeschool families on Oct. 2 is available with advance registration ony: $16 for children (ages 3-12), $21 for adults, and $20 for seniors (65+). The discount offer does not include an IMAX movie, and is not available for “walk-up” admission on Oct. 2.
