Area Educators Can Receive Free Admission and Explore Educational Opportunities, Feb. 22, at The Maritime Aquarium

On Sat., Feb. 22, area educators and school administrators receive free admission to The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk on “Teacher Appreciation Day” with the opportunity to learn how to use the Aquarium as a standards-fulfilling educational resource.

The free admission offer is for any formal or informal educator plus one guest. That’s a $26.95 value per adult. A school or work ID card, or name badge, must be shown to receive the free tickets.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., educators can see demonstrations of some of the Aquarium’s 35+ educational programs that are available for students from pre-K to high school. These programs can help to fulfill Next Generation Sceince Standards.

“The Maritime Aquarium is an incredible educational resource for the region, bringing to life lessons in environmental, life and earth sciences, yet many teachers may not know what we offer beyond being a fun place for a field trip,” said Tom Naiman, the Aquarium’s director of Education. “We can be an extension of the classroom for every teacher in the region.”

Also on Feb. 22, teachers can preview IMAX movies and tour the Aquarium’s R/V Spirit of the Sound to learn about the unique educational opportunities with students out on the Sound.

Additionally, Aquarium educators will be on hand to offer details about professional-development opportunities. (The Maritime Aquarium recently became the only Connecticut location to earn an invitation to join 100kin10, a national initiative dedicated to solving the STEM teacher shortage by 2021.)

Advance registration is strongly encouraged. To register or learn more, go to www.maritimeaquarium.org/experience.
