Norwalk Symphony Offers Three Streamed Spring Concerts!

At 7:00 pm on three separate Friday evenings this spring, smaller ensembles of Norwalk Symphony Orchestra players and guests can be streamed in a timely Chamber Music concert series. “A ‘silver lining’ of pandemic-induced social distancing has been the opportunity to explore and break out into smaller ensembles in some truly wonderful programs,” says the Symphony’s Music Director, Jonathan Yates.

The opening concert on March 26th, consists of just one piece, Brahms’ hauntingly beautiful Trio in E Flat for French Horn, Piano and Violin. Charles Bell of the Cincinnati Symphony is the horn player (and brother of Board President Chris Bell). Ned Tipton, Music Director of St. Mark’s in New Canaan, is the pianist and Emanouil Manolov, Norwalk Symphony Assistant Concertmaster, is the violinist.

The next program on April 16th, is aptly named “Spring Strings.” It starts with Mozart’s Divertimento in D Major, KV 136 and is followed by the Spring Concerto from Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Norwalk Symphony Concertmaster, Krzysztof Kuznik, will be the violin soloist for this piece. The next piece is Edvard Grieg’s Spring from Two Elegiac Melodies. Tchaikovsky’s iconic Serenade for Strings concludes the program.

The third concert of the series, “Woodwinds and Brass,” will be on May 21st. As its name indicates, it will feature players from these two sections of the orchestra. Brass players will be heard in Paul Dukas’s Fanfare to La Péri and to a selection of fanfares by Giovanni Gabrieli, and pieces by Britten and Ruggles. Next the woodwind players will be heard in Mozart’s Serenade in C minor, K 388. The program ends on an especially celebratory note with brass and winds combined. A PREMIERE of Segal’s Promenade for Winds, Brass and Percussion and Handel’s Royal Fireworks Music, a work first performed in 1749 to celebrate the end of a long and costly war. Then, join Maestro Jonathan Yates and Composer Yaniv Segal at 8:00pm at a post-performance Zoom Party to learn more about the Premiered music!

Tickets are $20/Household and $5/Students for the full series, and you may listen to one, two or all three! Tickets on our website at www.norwalksymphony.org/buy-online and the links to these concerts will be sent prior to their release date and time.
