The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County celebrates the vibrancy and diversity of the arts and culture across the 15 towns in our region of coastal Fairfield County and each Tuesday issues our free E-Buzz newsletter with a selection of the hundreds of events posted to our website by our members.
This weekend is a big one for Norwalk as the Norwalk Art Space opens its doors. This is a wonderful new space for local artists to show their work, and for local students to take free art classes and includes a gallery, café, sculpture garden and studios for artists, as well as classrooms and workspaces for students. The Art Space is located in the very handsomely renovated former Norwalk First Church of Christ Scientist at 455 West Ave, next to Mathews Park.
Named ADK House after Alexandra Davern Korry (1959-2020), the trailblazing lawyer, educator, civil rights champion, and philanthropist who wanted to create a space here to promote local artists and enhance opportunities for underserved students. Sadly, she passed away before construction was completed. Her husband Robin Panovka has boldly carried the torch and Norwalk has a new arts space to be treasured. The weekend celebrations include exhibitions, live music and tours: on Saturday, 12 - 7pm, two tours and music by Rebecca Haviland and Whiskey Heart, Mariachi Ensemble, an Indian Tabla Group and Big Sound Big Band; on Sunday, 12-5pm, 2 tours and music by Funky Dawgz, a Japanese Folk Dancer, and St. Lukes Steel-Pan Band.
Bridgeport also has a festival this weekend with the Bridgeport Art Fair on Saturday at the Reservoir Community Farm with live music, artists booths and spoken word performances by Shanna Melton, Iyaba Ibo Mandingo, Mick Theebs and more.
